A Dr Pepper dirty soda is a can of Dr Pepper over pebble ice with a flavored syrup and a splash of cream added. In the 10 combinations below, the syrup runs from none to 1 tablespoon and the cream from 1 to 2 tablespoons. The recipe card on this page is the cherry vanilla version; every other row is a swap of syrup, cream or Dr Pepper flavor using the same steps.
If you want the coconut, cream and lime classic, its history, and the caffeine numbers, that is on my separate dirty Dr Pepper page. This page is for comparing the other combinations.
These are common soda-shop combinations, written up from how they are usually made rather than ones I have taken through my own kitchen yet, so treat the amounts as a starting point and adjust to taste.

What are the best dirty soda combinations?
Coconut and lime with cream is a classic combination; it was popular enough that Coffee-mate and Dr Pepper released a Dirty Soda Coconut Lime creamer in 2024, and it has its own page. Beyond that, I would start with cherry and vanilla, since Dr Pepper already leans that way (the 23 flavors fans list include both), which is why I put that one in the recipe card. Fruit syrups like raspberry and peach are where it gets more personal.
How do the combinations compare?
- Closest to plain Dr Pepper: vanilla cream and cherry vanilla, which I would expect to push the soda toward a cream soda.
- Least added syrup: strawberries and cream, which takes its fruit flavor from the Dr Pepper Strawberries & Cream itself.
- Sharpest: raspberry lime, with only 1 tablespoon of cream so the lime is not buried.
- Richest: peaches and cream and salted caramel, the two I would expect to drink most like dessert.
- Lowest sugar: zero sugar coconut, with sugar-free syrup and only 1 tablespoon of half and half.
What syrups go in a dirty soda?
I would use coffee-style flavored syrups, the kind sold for lattes: coconut, vanilla, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, peach and caramel cover every row above, and sugar-free versions of most of them exist. A flavored coffee creamer can replace both the syrup and the cream; I would start with 2 tablespoons.
How to make a spiked dirty Dr Pepper
Add 1 1/2 ounces of coconut rum, vanilla vodka or whipped cream vodka to any of the combinations. That turns it into a cocktail for adults of legal drinking age only, so please drink responsibly. There are more of those in the Dr Pepper drinks and cocktails guide, including Dr Pepper and vodka. For non-alcoholic ideas beyond dirty sodas, see the Dr Pepper recipes, starting with the Dr Pepper float.
Frequently asked questions
What is usually in a dirty soda?
A soda base, a flavored syrup, a splash of cream or half and half, and often a squeeze of lime, all over pebble ice. On this page the base is always a Dr Pepper.
How much syrup do you put in a dirty soda?
In these combinations, none to 1 tablespoon (1/2 fl oz) per 12 fl oz can. Dr Pepper is already sweet, so start low and add more only after tasting.
How much cream goes in a dirty soda?
One to 2 tablespoons per can in these combinations. The sharper fruit and zero sugar versions use 1 tablespoon; the creamier ones use 2.
Can you make these with Dr Pepper Zero Sugar?
Yes. Swap in Dr Pepper Zero Sugar and sugar-free syrups for any row. The cream still adds a little sugar, so they will be lower in sugar rather than sugar-free.
